Ketuvi'im
- "Writings"
As in the Nevi'im, Jewish tradition groups
together several books in the Ketuvi'im--the third portion
of the Hebrew Tanakh. For example, 1 Chronicles and 2
Chronicles are considered one book, while the books of Ezra
and Nehemiah are counted as one book--the book of Ezra. With
this said, Jewish tradition holds that eleven books comprise
the Ketuvi'im. This portion of the Tanakh has traditionally
divided it up into three sections: The Three Poetic Books,
The Five Scrolls, and Historical Books. They are as follows:
The Three Poetic Books :
Psalms
- Hebrew: "Tehillim" = "Praises"
Proverbs
- Hebrew: "Mashali" = "My rule"; "My wisdom"
Job
- Hebrew: "Yob" = "Hostility"
