"The Temple Mount is in our hands." These were
the triumphant words spoken via radio by
Motta Gur, an Israeli army colonel whose eyes were among the first
to see Judaism's holiest site return to Jewish hands as Israeli
paratroopers liberated Jerusalem's Old City from Jordanian
occupation in 1967. However, the patriotic significance of such
words will likely take a hit in the very near future, if PM Ehud
Olmert and Defense Minister Ehud Barak (a former Israeli Prime
Minister) have their way. Recent reports indicate that Barak is
tickling Olmert's ear with a proposal that will lead to the Israeli
forfeiture of control over the Temple Mount, which serves as
Judaism's holiest site. Said proposal would likely concede
management of the Temple Mount to the governments of Egypt, Jordan
and the "Palestinian" Authority. Furthermore, the proposal also
includes Israel agreeing to withdraw from what would amount to
nearly 100% of Judea and Samaria.
He himself no stranger to cowering to Arab pressure (read: southern
Lebanon, 2000), Defense Minister Barak has delved even further into
a world of nonsensical lunacy by assuming an Israeli forfeiture of
the Temple Mount would be more palatable to Israelis if it involved
sharing it amongst the PA, Egyptians and Jordanians, as opposed to the
PA, alone. You see,
Olmert and Barak regard the Egyptians and
Jordanians as "moderates". Pardon me, as my knowledge of history may
have become a bit hazy, but was it not the Egyptians who infused the
Sinai with their troops in 1967 in a provocation that ultimately led
to the Six Day War? How "moderate" were the Jordanian snipers,
perched atop Saint Anne's Monastery, who were picking off the
Israeli citizens of Jerusalem in 1967? Sure, alot can change in 40
years, but given the nature of the "Palestinian" agenda, can we see
it has changed to a point where the Jordanians and Egyptians can be
trusted? Do they now respect Jewish sovereignty
over the Holy Land?
Regarding Barak, make no mistake, this is a man who can hardly be
considered a competent authority when it comes to matters concerning
Israel's defense and/or national security. After all, it was
Barak--at the time himself an Israeli prime minister in search of a
backbone--who facilitated the Israeli withdrawal from southern
Lebanon in 2000. In so doing, there was nothing to stand in the way
of Hezbullah as they made their way closer to Israel's northern
border. Barak's cowardice as Prime Minister was enough to facilitate
the second Lebanon war in the summer of 2006. His cowardice as
Defense Minister will effectively ensure another is soon to follow.
This is the man who has now been appointed as Defense Minister--the
gaurdian of Israel's security. As a leader with a less than stellar
track record of keeping Israelis safe, he now insists that Israel
must retreat from areas within her own borders to facilitate peace
and the creation of a "Palestinian" state. All reports
indicate that Prime Minister Olmert likes what he hears.
History has taught them nothing. Gaza circa 2005 taught them
nothing. The world caught a vivid glimpse of what happened when the
"Palestinians" of Gaza were given their own "state". Fully aware of
its vitriolic ideology, they democratically-elected a terrorist
organization to lead them.
Such generosity continues to come at the price
of
Jewish blood. Indeed, their blood is on the hands of murderers who
chose to spend eternity in darkness.
However, let us be clear, it is also blood that remains on the hands
of those Israeli leaders--past and present--who refuse(d) to recognize the nature of pure
evil.
