All Eyes on Annapolis
Volume I, Issue X

Shalom, Friends of Israel,

In this newsletter, you will find several of this week's leading relevant headlines and, perhaps more importantly, their tie-ins with the Word.

As many of you already know, Israel is rapidly approaching one of her most vulnerable and dangerous periods in recent history, and all signs point to it getting worse, before it gets better. Through its relentless pressure on Israel to negotiate with a "peace" partner whose ideology is predicated upon her demise, the United States has proven itself a most unworthy ally of the Jewish state in recent years, but particularly in the recent months that have led up to Tuesday's summit in Annapolis.

Continue to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (Psa. 122:6); that "peace be within thy walls" (Psa. 122:7). Please pray that George W. Bush and Condoleezza Rice will recognize the most grievous mistake they are making in their dealings with Israel and her enemies, so that they may know that God's Word is sovereign, and He means what He says when He promises judgement upon those who would seek to "divide" His land (Joel 3:2) and toil with Jerusalem (Zechariah 12:3)

It's been a very active couple of weeks on the international stage. Let's take a look at some of this week's headlines.

America:
On a Collision Course with Zechariah 12
It has been stated, "If you want to watch bible prophecy unfold in this day and age, watch the Middle East; watch Israel". Although you may be hard-pressed to find a Christian who would disagree with such an assertion, the process of interpreting biblical prophecies-whether they are fulfilled, unfulfilled, or unfolding-may, at times, be a little difficult when attempting to apply them to the events currently unfolding on the world's stage. The interpretation either aligns itself with another prophetic event-past, present and/or future-gaining merit in the process, or it simply "fizzles out" as an error in human reasoning. History provides clear examples of both. However, there are those prophetic writings found in the Word, foretold thousands of years ago, which undoubtedly apply to the events of the modern era, even in this day.

An example that comes to mind is the rebirth of Israel as a nation (Ezek 34:13) after 2,000 years of Jewish dispersion across the four corners of the globe. Moreover, there are those prophecy scholars-such as highly-respected, Dr. David Reagan of Lamb & Lion Ministries-who would assert that the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967 exists as another example of definitive prophecy fulfillment. (Luke 21:24) The focus of this article is the emergence of a third example. Simply put, the prophecies of Zechariah 12 serve as the only logical explanation for the manner in which the leaders on today's international stage have aligned themselves against Israel.

U.S. Middle East Policy:
From Failure in Baghdad to Desperation in Jerusalem

"Desperation". "Weakness".  These are common denominators that may surface when delving into the mindsets of U.S. President George W. Bush, Israeli PM Ehud Olmert, and PA President Mahmoud Abbas in the days leading up to highly-maligned Annapolis peace summit. Given the dire nature and lethal repercussions vis-à-vis an Arab-Israeli "peace" process that has a penchant for jumping the tracks, one can, with every certainty, come to the conclusion that the ingredients of "weakness" and "desperation", when thrown into the "kettle" of Middle Eastern diplomacy--yield unmitigated disaster. Still, the kettle has been lit and when the three leaders, as well as representatives from 46 other countries who simply could not pass the invitation, convene in Annapolis next week, let it be known that the bargaining chips are not on the table with the hope that peace, as it were, will be achieved. On the contrary, Bush, Olmert, and Abbas--three leaders with an average approval rating routinely hovering in the 30-35% range--merely require a peace that will be perceived.

Annapolis Hors D'Oeurvres:
The Golan Heights
The plot thickens.

In the weeks leading up to Tuesday's Arab-Israeli peace summit in Annapolis, Syria, technically still at "war" with Israel, has repeatedly made it known to Condoleezza Rice and President Bush that they will neither enter into peace talks with Israel nor attend the summit if the Golan Heights are not put "on the table". Reports now indicate that both Rice and Bush have consented to the Syrian demand.

Not for nothing, if the Syrian envoy should find that all is not going as they'd hoped in Annapolis, perhaps he should consider appealing to Damascus' First Lady herself, Nancy Pelosi. Her penchant for "causing a stir" is substantially documented.
